A Sneak Peak at Some Unread Books on My Shelf

Evening, all!

I own a lot of unread books. And when I say a lot, I mean so many that I am too ashamed to count them, and even if I did count, I’d be too embarrassed to tell you. Today I decided to skim my shelves to assess the situation – with the intention of doing a complete shelf rearranging next week – and I found so many books I either cannot believe I haven’t gotten around to yet, as well as a few I had forgotten I owned (including a duplicate I didn’t know I had.) This post is going to be a brief insight into some of the books I found languishing on the back shelf that need to be shown a little love. ‘Salmon Fishing in the Yemen’ by Paul Torday

This book may well have been on my shelf longer than the majority of others. I bought this before I got back into reading (as usual, it was from a discount book store) and I always think ‘I must get around to that one’ and then never do. I know I will eventually, and I want to see the film too, so hopefully I will actually read this one this year… I did say that last year, however.

‘Sweetly’ by Jackson Pearce

I adore ‘Sisters Red’, the first of Pearce’s fairytale reimaginings, so why have I not read this yet? It’s been a year and a half since I read ‘Sisters Red!’ I suppose a part of me is reluctant as I do not enjoy the story of Hansel and Gretel as much as I enjoy Little Red Riding Hood.

‘Poison Study’ by Maria V. Snyder

I own seven, yes, SEVEN Maria V. Snyder books. I have read none of them. I think I was just waiting for a time I could marathon them all, and then just didn’t find an opportune moment, and eventually forgot all about them.

‘The Scorpio Races’ and ‘The Raven Boys’ by Maggie Stiefvater

I’ve heard great things about ‘The Raven Boys’, and it was the premise of ‘The Scorpio Races’ that drew me to it. Both of these are sat on the front row of my shelves, and yet for some reason I always drift past them. The comments of anyone who has read either of these would be greatly appreciated, especially anyone with thoughts on ‘The Raven Boys’.

‘Me Before You’ by Jojo Moyes

I bought this as I could take it for free from the shop I volunteer in, and it has sat on shelf ever since. However, after seeing the brilliant trailer for the upcoming movie a few days ago and spotting Cassandra from The Late Night Reviewer’s glowing review today, I’m hoping to read this one ASAP. No more lingering on the back shelf!

‘Before I Go To Sleep’ by S.J. Watson, and ‘Gone Girl’ by Gillian Flynn

I bought both of these thrillers at the same time, as both had movie adaptations coming out that I was desperate to watch. Needless to say, I did not read or watch either, despite being so keen to do so. See below for a small gallery of books I bought in anticipation of reading before watching the film, and then ending up neither watching nor reading it:

‘Message in a Bottle’ and ‘Dear John’ by Nicholas Sparks

I even own the DVD of the film adaptation of ‘Message in a Bottle’, and naturally refused to watch it before reading it! I’ve never read a Nicholas Sparks book and I feel like I should.

‘Everything is Illuminated’ and ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’ by Jonathan Safran Foer

I’ve heard a lot of praise for Jonathan Safran Foer, and yet despite owning both of these, I’ve never had a moment where I thought ‘I really want to get into those books today’. Hopefully that time will come soon.

‘The Red House’ by Mark Haddon

Haddon’s ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’ will forever be one of my favourite books, but I have never felt a desperate urge to read this one. I want to, just not enough to push it to the front of my TBR queue.
